Just completed a kaleidoscope with a new inlay. The rings are cedar, and the
body is made from black walnut.
These kaleidoscopes allow you to view in several unique ways, including adding
your own objects. We make use of iridescent and translucent objects which
reflect light and give great results. Like most kaleidoscopes, these are best
used under bright light. Don't look directly at the light but rather allow the
light to enter into the side of the object compartment. Use the scopes to
relax, relieve stress, play a game of I spy and even educate kids on how light
travels, absorbs and reflects. We like to work with not only colors but also
with texture and depth (depth is difficult).
The scopes are three mirrors, with the body being eight inches in length. They
come with many objects, a sealed oil cell, an end paper (black on one side and
iridescent on the other) that can block the light from traveling through the
kaleidoscope (light enters the side and is reflected to the eyepiece). The end
paper can also be removed to allow light to travel directly through the
objects. We don't use stains on the wood as we love the natural color and
grains to show. The objects are also magnified slightly, bringing the colors up
close. While this is our first time to sell online, my partner and I have been
building kaleidoscopes since the 1980's. This scope is the result of many hours
of research and development over the years. We continue to look for ways to
build a better kaleidoscope and in the near future will be introducing a two
mirror one.
Note: The pictures you see are just a small sample of the variations of colors
and patterns that you see, in fact, you might not see the same view twice!
Kaleidoscope Dimensions: Approximately 10 inches long and 2 inches in diameter.
