BOONDOCK, the bug-eyed BODACH ! A “Not So Scary” monster of Irish legend !
He's definitely more mischievous than evil.
With the lockdown caused by the Covid pandemic, and the constant snow storms
here in NY, I have had a lot of time to watch movies and sew sock toys. Being a
multi-tasker, I combined the two to make one lovable, misshapen, sock monster!
He’s named after a cult movie that I’ve seen a few times called the “Boondock
Saints”. The film revolves around fraternal twin brothers from Boston’s Irish
ghetto, sworn to cleanse their hometown of evil with their own brand of
zealous, vigilante justice.
To create BOONDOCK, I threw together a mish-mosh of St. Paddy’s Day socks.
The striped, Shamrocked sock that became his body, makes this silly bogey man
look like an entrant in an “Ugly Sweater” contest. The way it stretches over
his bulbous belly, I doubt this bug eyed BODACH would scary anybody!! His body
parts, pulled from my vast sock scrap pile, are from bits and pieces that I’ve
used on other toys. Thus, making him a Frankenstein monster of sorts.
With those big bulging bug eyes, crooked snarl, complete with foam teeth and
cow horns, (that look more like a Toreador’s hat than a weapon) this guy has
been the laughing stock of his Bodach clan.
BOONDOCK is 10” tall X 7”wide. Unlike the frightful Celtic legend of Yore,
this guy is child safe…homeless, but harmless, unless you laugh yourself to
